How to Prepare a Watch for Online Appraisal

Preparing a watch for online assessment is about making it readable, not making it look new. An honest file with visible defects and organised information improves the usefulness of the response.

Photograph and describe

Use soft light, a simple background and unfiltered images. Include front, sides, external back, bracelet and clasp. Add details of marks difficult to see in the general view.

Record reference, material, paperwork and known maintenance. Do not force an uncertain date from an approximate search. Do not open the watch or remove parts for photographs.

State the purpose

Explain whether you need component analysis or monetary appraisal and why. Agree how personal documents should be transmitted. Keep original images and the file date.

If the reviewer requests another view, photograph that detail. Ten similar images do not reveal a hidden part. Physical examination may remain necessary despite a well-prepared photographic file.
