Used Watches: When to Appraise Them Before Trading Them In
A trade-in combines two transactions: selling one watch and buying another. Looking only at the extra amount payable can hide the figure assigned to each. Request separate prices.
Make the proposal readable
Ask for the incoming watch's price, the allowance for yours and any fees. Compare the purchase price without a trade-in on equivalent terms. A smaller cash difference is not automatically a better deal.
Prepare photographs, paperwork and service history for your watch. Establish whether the offer is final or conditional on physical inspection, and what findings could change it.
Check both objects
Convenience does not remove the need to inspect the watch you receive. A generous allowance cannot compensate for an unclear purchase description.
Independent component verification can clarify what is being negotiated. Monetary assessment is a separate task tied to the actual proposal.
