Rolex Caliber 3135: Innovation and Precision

The Rolex Caliber 3135 is a widely used Rolex movement and considered one of the cornerstones of its production. This C.O.S.C.-certified automatic movement features 31 jewels and a bidirectional rotor that powers the winding. Introduced in 1988, the caliber 3135 features a Parachrom hairspring, made from a paramagnetic alloy of niobium and zirconium. This component is ten times more shock-resistant than traditional materials and guarantees exceptional precision even in extreme conditions.

Materials used in the 3135

Rolex movements combine stainless steel with advanced materials to improve performance. Some of the key materials include:
  • Stainless steel: For strength and durability.
  • Synthetic ruby: Used for jewelry to reduce friction.
  • Parachrom hairspring: Paramagnetic and shock-resistant.
  • Glucydur: A beryllium and copper alloy for the balance wheel.
  • Teflon-coated rotor: For greater efficiency.
  • Gold Microstella screws: For precise adjustment of the balance wheel.

Evolution of the 3135

In the first 3135 models, the hairspring was made of Nivarox, supplied by a Swatch Group company. Rolex later introduced Parachrom Blue to ensure complete control over production and further improve performance.
An interesting detail is the adoption of the Microstella system, a Rolex invention from 1957 that replaces the traditional balance screws with four timing screws located inside the balance wheel rim.

The caliber 3135 is a testament to Rolex's commitment to innovation and quality. Its durability, precision and robustness make it a benchmark in the world of watchmaking, loved by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
